​Backpack Packing

Help assemble Hugs backpacks filled with essential items such as:

• socks

• hats

• hygiene supplies

• can openers

• toiletries

• feminine hygiene products

• and other necessities

Packing days can be done individually, with friends, or as part of a volunteer group.

Outreach Support​

Assist with preparing and distributing backpacks to community partners and organizations that work directly with individuals experiencing homelessness.

​

Outreach volunteers help ensure that supplies reach the people who need them most.

​

Donation Collection Support

Help us collect and organize donated supplies.

​

Volunteers may assist with:

• organizing donation drives

• managing supply inventory

• helping with donation boxes placed in businesses

• sorting and preparing items for backpack assembly

​

Grant Research Volunteer

Help us identify potential funding opportunities that support our mission.

​

Responsibilities may include:

• researching grants available to nonprofits in Canada
• identifying community foundations and funding programs
• compiling grant opportunities for review
• assisting with gathering supporting information for applications

This role helps Hugs for Homeless grow sustainably and expand our impact.

Social Media Support

Help spread awareness of our mission and the work we are doing in the community.

​

Responsibilities may include:

• sharing Hugs posts on social media
• helping create posts or graphics
• promoting donation drives or volunteer opportunities
• helping increase community engagement online

​

Your voice helps more people learn about the work we are doing and how they can help.

​

Poster and Flyer Distribution

Help raise awareness in the community by distributing informational posters and flyers.

​

Volunteers may assist with:

• placing posters in community spaces
• sharing flyers with local businesses
• helping promote donation drives and volunteer opportunities
• spreading the word about Hugs for Homeless throughout the community

​

This role helps connect more people with opportunities to support the mission.

​

Community Partnership Outreach Volunteer

Help us grow meaningful relationships with local businesses and community organizations.

​

Responsibilities may include:

• introducing local businesses to the Hugs for Homeless mission
• helping identify locations interested in hosting donation boxes
• sharing information about volunteer opportunities and partnerships
• assisting with community outreach efforts

​

This role helps expand our network of supporters and increases the number of supplies we can distribute to those in need.

Strong communication skills and comfort speaking with people are helpful for this role.

​

Inventory and Supply Coordinator

Help ensure we always have the supplies needed to assemble Hugs backpacks.

​

Responsibilities may include:

• tracking incoming donations and supplies
• helping organize and store inventory
• assisting with supply lists for backpack assembly
• helping prepare items for volunteer packing sessions

​

This role helps keep the Hugs program organized and ensures that backpacks can be assembled efficiently when supplies arrive.

​

Remote and Flexible Volunteering

Many of these roles can be done remotely and on your own schedule. Even small contributions of time can make a meaningful difference.

Corporate and Group Volunteering

 

Through our partnership with Kits for a Cause, companies and organizations can host team-building events that assemble care kits for individuals in need.

 

Groups from 5 to 5,000 participants can take part in these meaningful volunteer experiences.
